We are looking for a Solution Engineer with a hybrid profile to join our team. You will act as the bridge between professional process consulting (PMT) and technical implementation, ensuring our customers succeed in their transformation to "X-as-Code" workflows.
In this role, you will be a Technical Process Architect: you speak the language of quality managers while mastering the tools of software developers. You will design audit-proof workflows, lead cultural change, and get hands-on with the configuration of our toolchain.
About useblocks
useblocks is redefining the future of engineering workflows by enabling “Engineering-as-Code.” From aerospace to automotive to medical, global leaders like BMW, Bosch, CARIAD, and Mercedes-Benz trust our tools for safety-critical systems. Our open-source project, Sphinx-Needs, has grown to over 341,000 monthly downloads, setting the standard for documentation and traceability management.
Your Role
We are seeking a Solution Engineer who can provide both strategic process guidance and operational technical excellence. You will guide customers away from legacy tools (like DOORS or Word) toward agile, text-based workflows.
Your work will be split between Strategic Design (approx. 40%), defining architectures and processes, and Operational Implementation (approx. 60%), setting up pipelines, writing migration scripts, and training developers. You will ensure that the "Why" (Standards & Compliance) is perfectly supported by the "How" (Tech Stack & Automation).
Key Responsibilities:Strategic (The "Why" & Architecture)
- Design "X-as-Code" Architectures: Define repository structures, branching models, and workflows that replace legacy systems.
- Process Consulting: Ensure new workflows are audit-proof and compliant with standards like ASPICE, ISO 26262, or DO-178C.
- Legacy Strategy: Design migration paths, determining when to coexist with legacy tools and when to replace them.
- Change Management: Culturally lead teams through the transition, acting as a mentor to shift mindsets from document-centric to data-centric/agile working methods.
Operational (The "How" & Implementation)
- Pipeline Setup: Configure build pipelines and development environments using CI/CD (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and container technologies.
- Migration Scripting: Write Python scripts to migrate data from legacy tools (e.g., DOORS exports) into Sphinx-Needs.
- Configuration & Troubleshooting: Handle complex configurations (Sphinx, RST) and troubleshoot build errors when customer teams are blocked.
- Technical Training: Conduct methodology workshops and train developers on practical tasks, such as "How do I write a requirement file?"
Our Stack
- Core Tech: Python (for Sphinx configurations and scripts), RST/Markdown
- Infrastructure: Docker, DevContainers, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI
- Tooling: VS Code, Modern Git Workflows (Branching, Merging, Pull Requests)
- Docs & Traceability: Sphinx, Sphinx-Needs, ubTrace, ubCode
Who You Are
- Hybrid Expert: You are comfortable discussing ISO 26262 compliance with a Quality Manager in the morning and debugging a Docker container with a Developer in the afternoon.
- Process-Savvy: You have knowledge of ASPICE or similar safety standards and understand what makes a workflow "audit-proof."
- Technically Grounded: You have solid Python skills and are fluent in modern dev tools (Git, VS Code, CI/CD). You prefer "Everything-as-Code" over clicking through GUIs.
- Legacy Translator: You understand the pain points of tools like DOORS and know how to map those concepts to a modern, text-based approach.
- Teacher & Guide: You enjoy explaining complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and guiding teams through cultural changes.
Soft Skills
- Bridge Builder: Ability to translate between "Management/Quality" and "Dev/Tech."
- Proactive Problem Solver: You don't just advise; you are ready to jump in and fix configurations yourself to keep the project moving.
- Empathetic Leader: You understand that changing tools is hard for people and manage that transition with patience and clarity.
Why Join Us?
- Impact: Build the foundational infrastructure that enables modern traceability for safety-critical systems at companies like BMW and Bosch.
- Autonomy: Shape the architecture of our customer solutions and define the "Best Practices" for the industry.
- Culture: Join a remote-first, open-source-driven culture with deep engineering roots.
- Growth: Expand your profile by mastering the intersection of high-level consulting and deep-tech implementation.
